Two terrorists killed in foiled infiltration bid along LoC in J& K's Poonch

On the evening of Thursday, January 25, two heavily-armed terrorists were neutralized in the Khari Karmara area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district after an infiltration attempt was detected along the Line of Control (LoC). The terrorists attempted to cross into Indian territory from across the LoC when alert troops spotted their movement. A swift and heavy firefight ensued, and the operation continued overnight, ultimately resulting in the killing of both militants.

The Army's White Knight Corps confirmed that the infiltration was detected at around 1:20 am, triggering an immediate engagement with the infiltrating terrorists. The security forces responded with full force, engaging the militants in a heavy exchange of fire. The operation, which lasted several hours, led to the neutralization of the two terrorists. Reinforcements were deployed to secure the area and prevent any further infiltration attempts.

A subsequent search operation in the area led to the recovery of multiple weapons and war-like stores, including rifles, ammunition, and explosives. The army has not provided specific details on the nature of the recovered weapons, but such recoveries are typically significant in preventing further threats in the region. Troops are continuing to search the area for any remaining threats or hidden weapons caches.

The foiled infiltration attempt is part of the ongoing efforts to curb cross-border terrorism along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. The operation comes just days after an exchange of fire in the higher reaches of Kathua district on January 25, where security forces engaged with terrorists who had attempted to infiltrate. The terrorists involved in that encounter managed to escape after an initial firefight, prompting the launch of extensive search operations in the area.

In addition to the operation in Poonch, security forces also initiated a joint cordon and search operation in the Doda district early Thursday morning. The operation, led by the Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF, was launched after receiving reports of suspicious terrorist activity in the forest areas of Bhaderwah. Local residents had alerted authorities about unusual movements in the region. The operation is ongoing, with additional reinforcements sent to the area to ensure the security of the region.
